Daraa – Syrian rebels bombed a regime-held district in the southern city of Daraa on Tuesday, causing casualties among civilians, activists reported.
Rebel fighters shelled the al-Sahary neighbourhood in Daraa, bombing a primary school.
“A rocket fired by the rebels hit a school in al-Sahary, killing at least eight people, including six school children,” local media activist Ali Hamdan told ARA News.
More than 20 others were wounded in the bombardment.
“The shelling caused a massive destruction to the school and the surrounding residential buildings,” Hamdan said.
The Syrian state news agency SANA also reported the attack, saying that “terrorists” have intentionally bombed the school “to terrify people in government-held areas”.
Rebel fighters and Islamist groups control most of Daraa province. However, the Assad regime is still in control of major parts of Daraa City.
